The Mayans - Tikal
The ancient Mayan civilization and the Mayans are one of the most mysterious in the world and as we lost most of its samples and we hardly seems to have them entirely figured it out, we can still visit some of their cities. One of them is Tikal, the amazing Mayan cultural center that represented the heart of the Mayan territory. Tikal is located in Guatemala, right in the middle of central America, where the Mayas historically lived in between the Aztecs in Mexico and the Incas down in Peru. The architecture of Tikal is mainly done by the pyramids, that with their steps get a square look. How these magnificent buildings were built is still a mystery to us, but it's definitely fun and rewarding to climb them, and enjoy the view from the top. Tikal lies in the middle of the jungle and the plants literally cover most of the constructions, making it look like a city frozen in time. The Mayan spirit comes strongly upon Tikal visitors, as any referral to the modern world is left out in an enchanted environment. Mayas were extraordinary people, very intelligent and very knowledgeable of science and mathematics, and their city clearly represents that. Even people that are not really impressed by historical sites, cannot deny the beauty of Tikal and not being fascinated by its mystery. It feels like being in an Indiana Jones movie, speaking of which, George Lucas shot parts of the Star War saga grand finale "Return of the Jedi", here in Tikal - the preservation of one of the oldest ancient Mayan civilization.
