Le Mont St. Michel
A mountain in the middle of the desert or an island in the middle of the ocean?

This is "Mont St. Michel", one of the most memorable spots in northern France and perhaps in the entire world. Located in the beautiful region of Normandy, in the gulf of St. Malo, Mt. St. Michel is a unique place for its natural characteristics. It is indeed a 250 foot rock rising on a vast sand zone, waiting for the high tide to bring water, transforming it into an astonishing beautiful island. The little village built on the top was originally a Benedictine monastery, with a castle and a gorgeous church; within the years it became a small tourist center, with museums, refreshment areas and even a few small houses. Most of the buildings are in granite with gothic architecture, dated circa 13th century and the surrounding nature makes it just magical. Mont St. Michel is one of those places where time stops, to make us realize how small we are. A truly memorable day could be spent there, fascinating for adults that will appreciate the power of the tides and fun for children, who can play knights and princesses in the medieval alleys. One stop that every family should make, because it's not just a landmark, but a true life experience. Definitely recommended as one of the top ten spots in France, if not in the world.
